Extreme climate change events take place during the 2030s, causing massive global upheaval. Ģ042 takes place two decades after the events of the War of 2020. It is set in the same continuity as Battlefield 3 and 4. Similar to Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2042 has a background narrative despite having no single-player campaign.
